By all accounts, "The Revenant" was a brutal, nasty shoot, but for heaven's sake, it wasn't THAT brutal and nasty.

In the movie, which is inspired by true events, Leonardo DiCaprio plays explorer Hugh Glass, who is attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own team. Somehow that attack got misconstrued, with a Drudge Report story breathlessly claiming "DICAPRIO RAPED BY BEAR IN FOX MOVIE." The story -- which says Leo's character is raped twice by a wild bear -- made the Internet rounds on Tuesday, but eventually a 20th Century Fox spokesperson stepped in with a statement to Entertainment Weekly:

"As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs. There is clearly no rape scene with a bear."

Guess it wasn't clear enough to whoever came up with that Weekly World News-worthy report, which means more people will probably have the same reaction when the movie hits theaters on Christmas Day and then wider on January 8. This can't be the conversation Leo and director Alejandro G. Inarritu would like viewers to have, but ... all publicity is good publicity?
