Stop us if you've heard this one before: Chris Pine plays the captain of a ship who navigates an unforgiving and grim expanse as he embarks on a bleak, life-saving mission.

Instead of helming a space ship as James T. Kirk in his "Star Trek" franchise, Pine takes on the role of a Coast Guard captain determined to rescue crew members on a sinking ship off the coast of Massachusetts that was ripped apart by a menacing storm in "The Finest Hours."

As Coast Guard Capt. Bernie Webber, along with three other men, Pine sets out on a wooden lifeboat as he maintains a Boston accent thicker than the glue used to keep his wet hair strands perfectly in place through 60-foot high waves, snow and hurricane-force winds.

The disaster drama is based on real events that happened in 1952 and co-stars Casey Affleck, Eric Bana, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger and John Ortiz, in theaters on Jan. 29, 2016.
