14 Classic Comedies Hollywood Should Never Remake

On the 30th anniversary of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," we can assume that no one would ever dare remake this John Hughes classic. Also, hands off to some of our favorite beloved comedies such as "Clueless" and "The Big Lebowski."

'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' (1986)

Could there ever be another Ferris besides Matthew Broderick? The very idea would make Cameron go berserk. (Nevermind that short-lived TV remake!)

'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' (1975)

Would you dare dishonor the memory of the late Graham Chapman (King Arthur himself) with a remake? You know what we have to say to that: "RUN AWAY!"

'The Big Lebowski' (1998)

You wouldn't want to bum out The Dude, would you? Only a paraquat would attempt to remake the Coen's cult classic.

'Some Like It Hot' (1959)

You think anyone could improve on director Billy Wilder, Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon? Or that famous last line?

'Office Space' (1999)

"I'm gonna need you to leave this perfect workplace comedy alone, mmmmkay?"

'Groundhog Day' (1993)

As Phil Connors (Bill Murray) says at one point in this brilliant comedy about a man forced to relive the same day over and over, "I've already done it!" And we don't need scenes of the main character Googling "Déja vu" over and over.

'Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb' (1964)

Is there a comedian today who could take on the multiple roles in this Cold War satire as brilliantly as Peter Sellers did? Or a director equal to Stanley Kubrick? To quote mad General Jack D. Ripper, a remake would be "the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face."

'This is Spinal Tap' (1984)

This Rob Reiner mockumentary goes to 11. You can't top that.

'Airplane!' (1980)

Remaking this parody of '70s disaster flicks? "Surely, you can't be serious."

'Clueless' (1995)

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) would have a lot to say about remaking this '90s gem written and directed by Amy Heckerling, but we can boil it down to two words: "As if!"

'The Breakfast Club' (1985)

As "Funny or Die's" Schindizzle tweeted in 2015: "If 'The Breakfast Club' were made today, it would be a silent film about five kids staring at their phones."

'The Princess Bride' (1987)

If you remake this funny, sweet, perfectly cast '80s fantasy film, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) has three words for you: "Prepare to die!"

'Beverly Hills Cop' (1984)

Besides showcasing Eddie Murphy at his funniest, this comedy is indelibly rooted in the '80s, from the jokes about cocaine to Murphy cracking up over the guys wearing the Michael Jackson jackets. And do we need a techno remix of the synth-pop theme song?

'My Cousin Vinny' (1992)

We respectfully submit that more than "two youts" would be upset if this comedy, with a hilarious, Oscar-winning turn by Marisa Tomei, were remade.
