'Grey's' Alum Sara Ramirez Slams ABC & 'The Real O'Neals' for Bisexuals Joke
Anyone still hoping "Grey's Anatomy" anytime soon may not like this reality check. Ramirez just put ABC on blast, writing "I will invest my brand where I'm respected" in reference to an insulting joke about bisexuals on an episode of "The Real O'Neals."
According to TVLine, the joke aired in the January 17 episode, where (openly gay) Kenny (Noah Galvin) sarcastically compared being bisexual to hardships like "webbed toes" and "money problems."
Both Ramirez the actress and Callie on "Grey's" identify as bisexual, and she called out the network and the sitcom to use their powers to promote accurate, positive representation, linking to a Change.org petition to ABC titled "End Biphobia and Bi-erasure on The Real O'Neals":
WORDS MATTER.PLEASE SIGN this petition 2 @ABCNetwork protesting biphobia in @TheRealONeals: https://t.co/TkyT5ICtgo@StillBisexual ????????????#LGBTQ

And as someone who worked 4 them 4 10 years+,am truly disheartened & disappointed quite frankly.I will invest my brand where I'm respected. https://t.co/NQQAPDsFlU

Noah Galvin has been in headlines before for his strong opinions in interviews, but this time he wasn't speaking off the cuff, he was working from a script. And his Twitter is filled with retweets from fans who want a third season of the show, because they feel "The Real O'Neals" represents them better than anything else out there. Here's a sampling:
