UPDATE:

There's now an official announcement with additional details about "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite," the upcoming mobile game from the same company that brought us "Pokemon Go."

In partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (and the appropriately-named imprint Portkey Games), "Pokemon" developers Niantic say that this new game, "Wizards Unite," will "reveal that magic is all around us, and allow players to be a part of Harry Potter's rich world." The release continues:

By exploring real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe, players will go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters.

"With this game, we are allowing the passionate, worldwide fan base to experience J.K. Rowling's deeply powerful and imaginative universe in a new, truly immersive way," said David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, in a statement. "It is wonderful to have Niantic's remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives."

Here's the official logo that will accompany the game:

More information about the game is expected to be released soon. Our original report about the news is below.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

Gamers would couldn't get enough of the insanely popular "Pokemon Go" app last year will soon have a new mobile obsession, with the news that the same developers are now taking a crack at the "Harry Potter" franchise.

Tech Crunch reports that a new augmented reality game centered around the Potterverse, called "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite," is in the works from "Go" proprietors Niantic. According to Tech Crunch, "Wizards Unite" is reportedly going to take a lot of influence from an existing Niantic property called "Ingress," a game "which allows players to roam the real world collecting power-ups, defending locations and exploring their environment," and will also likely feature many real-life locations in the game, similar to "Pokemon Go."

There aren't any other details to go on just yet, though "Potter" seems like the perfect property for a game like this, with so many characters, spells, and rich wizarding history to draw from. And just like "Pokemon" devotees, "Harry Potter" fans are a pretty loyal and enthusiastic bunch, and should easily turn "Wizards Unite" into a sensation that matches the frenzy "Go" generated back in 2016.

Now all we have to do is wait for an official release date. "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite" is set to debut sometime in 2018, so prepare to accio 'em all next year.
