Reginald Hudlin, whose films include "House Party" and "Marshall," has just signed on to direct an untitled sports drama for Disney+.

The project is based on the true story of Ray Ray McElrathbey. As a freshman football player for Clemson University, he started secretly raising his 11-year-old brother on campus because of their mother’s issues with addiction. The story made national news in 2006.

Mark Ciardi ("The Rookie" "Million Dollar Arm") is producing.

Hudlin was Oscar-nominated as a producer on Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained."

He also  -- fascinating fact -- has written comic books, notably Marvel’s "Black Panther" and is the co-creator of Shuri, T'Challa's genius sister, who first appeared in 2005.

Small world: He also directed the future Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, in 2017's biopic "Marshall," about Supreme Court judge Thurgood Marshall.
