"The Hunger Games" fans will soon be able to return to Panem.

Suzanne Collins has written a "Hunger Games" prequel novel, currently untitled, which will be released by Scholastic on May 19, 2020.

The prequel will be set in the world of Panem on the morning of the reaping of the 10th Hunger Games.

That places it 64 years before the events of the bestselling original trilogy, which chronicled Katniss Everdeen's journey after volunteering in place of her sister for the 74th Hunger Games.

"With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival," Collins said in a statement.

"The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity."

Lionsgate adapted the books into four movies (splitting the final book, "Mockingjay") starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss. Collectively, the four films earned more than $3 billion at the box office.

Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said, "As the proud home of the 'Hunger Games' movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie."
