He's up against two of the best movie Jokers in Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson. But Jared Leto makes this villain all his own in "Suicide Squad," says costar Margot Robbie.

"What he's doing with the character is so cool," Robbie tells the New York Daily News -- high praise coming from somebody who herself had to amp the crazy up to 11 playing Harley Quinn in the anti-superhero movie that recently finished shooting.

The Oscar-winning Leto was so intense that at first Robbie found it "confronting" to be near him when he was in makeup -- then even more intimidating when he stripped it away.

"Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him," she says. "I was too scared to go up and didn't know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable."

"Suicide Squad" hits theaters in August 2016.
