Jeff Daniels to Star in Showtime's Family Drama 'Rust'
Jeff Daniels has booked his return trip to television.
The "Newsroom" alum is set to star in the family drama "Rust," which was ordered straight to series by Showtime.
Daniels is currently starring in Aaron Sorkin's Broadway adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird," for which he received a Tony nomination. His final show is November 3; Ed Harris will take over the role of Atticus Finch.
"Rust," which is based on the Philipp Meyer novel, will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.
Daniels starred on HBO's "Newsroom" for three seasons, earning an Emmy for his performance news anchor Will McAvoy. He went on to play an outlaw in Netflix's "Godless" and a counterterrorism chief in Hulu's "The Looming Tower."
