"A Quiet Place" may be one of the best horror movies of the year, but it's also a love letter to John Krasinski and Emily Blunt's kids.

Krasinski, who co-wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the film, recently appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and told the late-night host about how his family inspired the project. He acknowledged that it sounds strange to say, but ultimately, the story is for his two young children.

"It sounds psychotic, but it's a love letter to my kids," he told Kimmel. "I wrote the movie for my daughters."

It actually makes sense. As Kimmel pointed out, it's a film about parents protecting their kids. When the late-night host said it, Krasinski let him know that's exactly how he intended it.

Along with the actor's kids inspired him in writing the movie, his wife, Blunt, did as well. Krasinski shared that he wrote the part she played "with her in mind." Funnily enough, though, he didn't have to ask her to take the role -- she was actually the one who first suggested it. It worked out perfectly for Krasinski; he hadn't asked out of fear she'd say yes for his sake and he didn't want her doing it "just for [him]."
