After years of playing Uncle Jesse, John Stamos is finally stepping into the role of the dad: The "Full House" star is expecting his first child with fiancee Caitlin McHugh.

Stamos revealed the exciting news in an interview with People, explaining that he and McHugh had previously discussed the possibility of becoming parents -- and then they found out that McHugh was pregnant. Soon after, the actor staged his romantic Disney-themed proposal.

The couple has been together for just under two years, and got engaged in October. This will be the first child for both of them.

As the 54-year-old Stamos explained to People, he "always wanted to be a dad," but after years of the single life, didn't think it would happen.

"People would say, 'You should have a child,'" the actor told the magazine. "I was like, 'That ship has sailed.'"

Now, Stamos says that he's planning on putting his decades' worth of on-screen parenting skills to use in real life.

"I'll be a fun dad. I've been practicing for a long time," the actor joked to People. "I've done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV ... all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I'll probably just do all that stuff."

No due date for their impending bundle of joy has been revealed yet. Congrats to the soon-to-be family of three!
