"Life Sentence" got a death sentence from The CW, according to star Lucy Hale. The actress tweeted that the freshman drama would not be returning for a second season.

"Just got the sad news that 'Life Sentence' will not be coming back for a second season," she announced.

Hale starred as a young woman dying of cancer who learns she will actually survive. She gets a major reality check while acclimating to a post-cancer world, as she learns her family has been keeping secrets from her for years. The show also starred Elliot Knight, Dylan Walsh, Gillian Vigman, Jayson Blair, Brooke Lyons and Carlos Pena Vega.

Things weren't looking good for "Life Sentence" after The CW moved it from Wednesdays to Fridays. The show was averaging just 500,000 viewers and an anemic 0.15 in the adults 18-49 demographic.

But the cancellation will give The CW more room on its packed schedule. The network already renewed 11 of its series and has several high-profile pilots, including reboots of "Charmed" and "Roswell."
