The future is female for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Up until now, the MCU has been dominated by male superheroes — Iron Man, Captain America, Thor. The upcoming "Ant-Man and the Wasp" features a female superhero as the co-lead for the first time and next year's "Captain Marvel" will be the first MCU movie with a woman solely as the star.

But in the coming years, the MCU may look very different. Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Screenrant that he envisions the gender split trending toward female superheroes.

"I think we're getting to the point soon where we have so many great female characters that those are just our heroes as opposed to when are they all female, all male," he said. "It's just the Marvel heroes, more than half of which will be women."

Of course, right now, Marvel heroes are primarily male. But it seems the company has listened to all the clamoring for movies featuring Black Widow and the badass women of "Black Panther," Okoye, Nakia, and Shuri. And maybe the Wasp can get her own movie (sans Ant-Man) as well.

Bring it on.
