The 2018 Emmy nominations were revealed on Thursday, and as usual, there were some big shockers.

One surprise that came with the nomination news was the end of an era. For the past eight seasons, "Modern Family" has been been dominant at the Emmys. Each of its first eight seasons was nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, and it won an impressive five times. This year, however, the ABC show was passed over, not just for Outstanding Comedy Series but in all of the major categories.

While some "Modern Family" fans seem pretty upset about the news on Twitter, there is a surprisingly large contingent of people who are super pleased at this recent turn of events. It's almost like they felt personally victimized by the show's long run of success. If you ask them, "Modern Family" not getting so Emmy attention is overdue. Check out their tweets:

Ouch. Some people were a little harsh, but it's true that "Modern Family" getting left out saved room for some new contenders. First-time nominees in the Outstanding Comedy Series category this year include "GLOW," "Barry, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." That's huge for their casts and crews, if sad for the "Modern Family" gang.

There's always hope that the acclaimed comedy will fight its way back into the Emmy mix next year. For now, we'll see who wills the 2018 awards on Monday, Sept. 17. The show airs live at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
