When "Law & Order: SVU" returns for its record 21st season, Philip Winchester's character, Assistant District Attorney Peter Stone, won't be part of it.

The actor announced via Twitter today that he is leaving the show.

"Sadly for me, Peter Stone and his 'the facts don’t care about your feelings' attitude will not be returning," he tweeted.  "A huge tip of the hat to my amazing fans and not so big of fans. You ALL make me work harder. Thank you! See you on the next adventure.”

It's not clear if he was fired or decided to leave the show of his own accord. It does sound like we've seen the last of Stone, who appeared on several other Dick Wolf shows.

The character was transferred from "Chicago P.D." two years ago: He was also featured on "Chicago Justice," and "Chicago Med." (Wolf loves a crossover.)

He also tweeted, "I want to congratulate the cast and crew of @nbcsvu for making history today. Also to thank everyone for two great seasons. I have learned much and enjoyed being part of an elite unit. Here’s to you all and a historic run!

His other TV credits include playing Sgt. Michael Stonebridge  on "Strike Back," Alex Kane on "The Player," and Colonel Shaw on "24: Live Another Day."
