Nooo! That sound you hear is fans mourning as "Lucifer" joins the heap of newly canceled shows.

Series creator showrunner Joe Henderson took to Twitter to voice his disappointment at Fox's decision -- and to apologize for the way the show is now going to end: With a cliffhanger.

"We created a season finale with a huge cliffhanger so that there was no way Fox could cancel us," he tweeted. "Instead, we're going to frustrate the hell out of you fans. I'm so sorry for that."

Still, Henderson called the finale "the best hour of television I've been lucky to write" and held out hopes that another network (hello, Netflix) might pick up the show. "Maybe, just maybe, we can #SaveLucifer."

Maybe. "#SaveLucifer" began trending worldwide, with more than 36,000 tweets as star Tom Ellis shared. So many tweets, in fact, that it crashed his phone.

Some Brooklyn Nine-Nine," and the award-winning show now has some high-level outlets considering picking it up.

Can fans also breathe new life into "Lucifer"? Stay tuned!
