Seth MacFarlane's space comedy "The Orville" is going through a wormhole from Fox to Hulu.

At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, MacFarlane announced that the series — which he created, writes, and stars in — will blast off to a new home for Season 3.

"The Orville" was slated for a midseason premiere on Fox, but production demands seemingly made that impossible.

"As the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network," MacFarlane said in a statement. "So, we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show."

"The Orville" is produced by 20th Century Fox Television, which is now owned by Disney. The company now has controlling interest in Hulu. This could be a matter of MacFarlane distancing himself from the network Fox (which is now a separate entity) and/or Disney wanting to keep their properties in-house.

The show is set four centuries in the future, and follows Captain Ed Mercer and his crew as they explore new planets and undertake diplomatic missions. Season 3 will debut on Hulu in late 2020, a year and a half after Season 2 aired.
