'Star Trek Beyond' Trailer to Debut at 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Screenings
There will be peace, briefly, between the warring factions of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fans next week, when the first trailer for "Star Trek Beyond" is set to debut during screenings of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the "Beyond" promo is currently slated to run before "The Force Awakens" when the latter premieres on December 18 (with advance screenings set for December 17). The move makes sense, both because both flicks appeal to the sci-fi crowd, but also because of the connection between "Force Awakens" helmer J.J. Abrams and the rebooted "Trek" franchise: Abrams directed 2009's "Star Trek" and 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness," and his Bad Robot company is also producing "Beyond."
We don't yet have many details about "Beyond," aside from the fact that "Trek" star Simon Pegg is penning the screenplay, and Idris Elba is playing the villain. Hopefully, the new trailer will reveal more intel to eager fans.
"Beyond" isn't the only excitement awaiting filmgoers, though, as THR reports that there are plenty of other awesome trailers that could make appearances during "Star Wars" screenings, including those for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "X-Men: Apocalypse," "Independence Day: Resurgence," "Captain America: Civil War," and "Finding Dory." Better snag your seat early.
"Star Trek Beyond" is due in theaters on July 22, 2016.
