"Stargirl" has found a Starman.

The upcoming DC Universe series has cast Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton, Variety reports. The character doubles as the superhero Starman, who's known in the comics as the Star-Spangled Kid and Skyman. His role is a recurring one.

The actor joins Brec Bassinger, who plays the titular superhero. Her character, Courtney Whitmore, is a high school student that ends up inspiring a group of young heroes to take on villains of the past. The characters were created by Geoff Johns, and he'll write the first episode, not to mention double as the showrunner and an executive producer. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter are also executive producers, with Berlanti Prods. and Mad Ghost Prods. producing in association with Warner Bros. Television.

McHale is best known for his work in comedy. He starred in the sitcoms "The Great Indoors" and "Community," and also previously hosted "The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale." However, he's also done more serious projects, like the "X-Files" revival.

"Stargirl" is for DC Universe's digital subscription service and it is due to premiere in 2019.
