James Bond can kick, punch and shoot his way through a brawl without so much as a bruise or torn trousers. But in “American Ultra,” when Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg engage in fisticuffs, unlike Bond, their style gets knocked out too.

“Most of the time in action movies they take hits and then they get up, and they’re perfect,” Stewart tells Made in Hollywood. “You’re not used to seeing people look completely mangled. By the end of it we get really badly beat up.”

In “American Ultra,” Stewart and Eisenberg are stoners on the run from the CIA after agents attempt to kill Eisenberg’s character—a former operative who doesn’t remember his past.

“In the movie we’re not supposed to be action stars, we’re supposed to be real people,” Eisenberg explains. And there’s no shortage of bloody faces, wounds and bruises on the costars in the action-comedy. “The most makeup I had on my face took four hours to do and then two hours to get off,” he adds. “The technicians are amazing artists.”

“American Ultra” arrives in theaters on Friday. Watch the trailer below.
