How a small group of rebels forced Britain to withdraw after centuries of conquest and misrule.
2. That the Nation May Live
In 1919, the pro-independence Sinn Féin party wins and an independent parliament, the Dáil Éireann, is created. As the number of IRA militants grows, violence escalates throughout the country.
3. The Spirit of Freedom
In the late twenties, Ireland is in the midst of war. Towns and villages have been devastated, house raids strike fear into the population and hundreds of Republicans have been arrested. Despite having tens of thousands of troops on the ground, much of the countryside becomes ungovernable for the British as rebels step up armed attacks.
