The actor, history enthusiast and presenter profiles the most legendary of Italy's rulers, beginning with the first of two instalments about infamously assassinated general Julius Caesar. Visiting Rome, Egypt, Greece and France, Tony attempts to fathom the motives for his murder, and assesses why the popular leader, well-loved military figure and radical reformer was hated by some of his closest allies.

The presenter investigates ancient Roman society, chronicling the latter years of Julius Caesar, when his power stretched far and wide after a string of military victories.
