In 1897, John Thornton (Rick Schroder) leaves his family and travels to Alaska in the hopes of becoming a prospector in the Klondike Gold Rush. Along the way, Thornton befriends Native American Charlie (Gordon Tootoosis) and Buck, an abused sled dog who was stolen from his family and has led a hard life himself. Together, Thornton and Buck battle the bitter cold, exhaustion, and the greed of other prospectors as they struggle to locate the mine that Thornton believes will make him a fortune.
