In colonial Africa, American railroad engineer Robert Adamson (Robert Taylor) sets out from Mombasa, Kenya, to Lake Victoria to plot out a route for Africa's first transcontinental railroad. He is accompanied on this treacherous task by Jane Carlton (Anne Aubrey), whose father and fiancé have both disappeared in the wilds of the African veldt, and a spunky young Arab boy, Pasha (John Dimech), whose slave-trader father, Ben Ahmed (Grégoire Aslan), is working with a rival railroad firm.
