    Peter Travers Rolling Stone

Peckinpah rubbed our noses in the bloodlust. Lurie invites objectivity. He gets strong, complex performances from actors who won't be painted into corners. show more

    Amy Biancolli San Francisco Chronicle

Rod Lurie's heated but empty-headed remake re-creates the original's trudge toward savagery but can't re-create its social context - and doesn't bring anything new to the table. show more

    Scott Bowles USA Today

Even by today's standards, some scenes are jaw-dropping in their bloodshed. To that end, Lurie accomplishes some of what Peckinpah evoked 40 years ago. show more

    Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer

It fails as a gripping home-invasion thriller. show more

Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News

While Lurie could have gone lighter on the symbolism, he ratchets up the tension with deft intelligence. He's not just making a thriller but a horror film, and we feel his own fear in every scene. show more

    Todd McCarthy The Hollywood Reporter

Whereas Peckinpah managed not only to raise hackles but to get under the skin, Lurie manages only the former, which reduces the material to the level of sensation-mongering. show more

This new version of Straw Dogs, written and directed by Rod Lurie, has been contemporized, sanitized and stripped of all complexity, and what's left is as empty as a used piñata. show more

    Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

Rod Lurie has made a first-rate film of psychological warfare, and yes, I thought it was better than Peckinpah's. Marsden, Bosworth and Skarsgard are all persuasive, and although James Woods has played a lot of evil men during his career, this one may be the scariest. show more

    Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald

Straw Dogs is an artful provocation - a meditation on masculinity and societal mores in the guise of an explosive thriller. show more

    James Berardinelli ReelViews

Although the moral ambiguity of Straw Dogs has been softened in the remake, the message and the forceful way in which it is delivered remain the same. show more

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Incoherent nonsense. Anyone who gave this movie a good review is doing it out of spite. They just want you to waste two hours of your life like they did. The movie earned one star for the fight scene at the end. If you like action then the last 15 minutes is worth a look. watching the whole movie is pointless.

reviewed original prior to seeing 2011 remake.,, liked 2011 version MUCH better, Character of Charlie was actually likable. Skarsgard is outstanding & a great actor. Woods should win oscar. Marsden\'s character more likable than Hoffman in original. Actually wanted the agressors to win. suspenceful even knowing what would probably be happening. Will see it again today . then wait for BluRay

Give a little, take a little. Aside from Dustin Hoffman in the oroginal, the acting in the 1971 film was far inferior to the performances of all in the update. However, the developing storyline and climactic scenes in the Sumner defense of his home were more engrossing and suspense filled than in this update. The update followed the original production acceptqable well with few changes that took nothing from the original.

a little slow starting but excellent once it gets rolling. Suspenseful and interesting and the violence is somehow LESS intense than in the original. Saw Contagion last week and Straw Dogs was much better IMO. Especially good for anyone who hasn\'t seen the original movie already I would think. For those like me who saw the original -- I like the change in the Charlie character - not just a dumb brute in this one. He\'s complicated here, not a totally bad guy at all, and this made the story much more interesting to me. Acting was good all around too.

These other reviews are from fake reviewers, if any of them are real please respond to this post. I hated this movie so much I want to get the word out. They should not even be given the opportunity of 1 star
