In this zany movie,we have a cast that makes the medical profession seem quirky and looney.Sonny Lawson(Reynolds), has just been told he does not have long to live.Legendary Carl Reiner plays Dr. Krugman, and the laughs keep coming.Sonny has trouble in the romance dept and tries to balance his time between wife Jessica(played by legendary Joanne Woodward),and his girlfriend Mary Ellen (played by Oscar winner Sally Field).Sonny gets institutionalized, and has to deal with a zany schitzophrenic patient Marlon (hilariously played by late actor Dom DeLuise).Actress Kristy McNichol plays Julie,Sonny's daughter. It seems that Julie is more understanding than the other characters. What ensues during the film,is Sonny's sudden change of heart. He tries to elude Marlon, who is persistant at trying to kill him. If we notice,Sonny appears to question religion. It is hlarious, when he swims out to the water and prays for God to save him.I love it how Sonny bargains with God, how much he would tithe to church. My cheers and Bravo to the late DeLuise,Field and Reynolds. This knee-slapping melodramatic film certainly tickles the cliched "funnybone".
