Vitus Poster

PG| 2 hr. min.

Plot Summary
From a very early age, Vitus (Teo Gheorghiu) showed signs of genius -- like reading encyclopedias in kindergarten -- and by age 5 had already mastered the piano. With well-intentioned but overbearing parents (Julika Jenkins, Urs Jucker) pressuring him to continue his music career, Vitus dreams of a normal childhood. With the help of his grandfather (Bruno Ganz), Vitus feigns an injury and gains wealth quickly in the stock market so he can take up flying.

  • A gentle fable about how the young boy from Zurich struggles to fit in rather than stand out, Vitus is both a cautionary tale for pushy parents and an endearing, if eccentric, empowerment fantasy for precocious children. show more

  • When the movie becomes pure fantasy, it's impossible to swallow. (No landlord rents an apartment to a 12-year-old with no adult in sight.) show more

  • Deep down, this is a film about childhood dreams and the determination to make those dreams come true. With such a positive message, you can't help yodeling on your exit from the theater. show more

I don't know what the critics were watching but this was one of the "best movies' that we have seen in a long time. Good cast, wonderful talent, warm and sincere family feelings. It was nice seeing a movie about a genius with comon sense.---MC

His piano music floats out the window through the night over the city.He imitates the Russian style of piano teaching."Paradoxical" is an important descriptive word for the movie itself and the situations within it.Everything in this movie has a meaning. You have to let it come to you; you cannot look for it.The best movie I have seen in the last year.
