Plot Summary

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) has lost all hope.  After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision.  With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone.  WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

  • Under the keen-eyed direction of Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club), Wild emerges as an exciting, elemental adventure that takes you places you don't see coming. show more

  • Wild has so many things in its favor that it’s tempting to leave out the fact that it’s a movie about a hike that sometimes feels like being on a hike, a long one, without many changes of scenery. But the movie’s achievement is that it overcomes this. show more

  • This screen adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s autobiographical best-seller is burdened, out of fidelity to the book, with life lessons and unneeded explanations that it dispenses, like CliffsNotes, at every opportunity. show more

Even though this was a movie about a long hike, I felt like you really got a good look into why she chose to subject herself to this. I truly enjoyed her journey both literally and figuratively. Reese Witherspoon gave a really convincing performance in this role. One reviewer felt like the book was so much better and isn't that usually the case.

I am not a big Reese Witherspoon fan in general, but her performance in this movie is exceptional. She gives a roller coaster of feelings and emotions that makes her character as Cheryl Strayed very relatable. I even shed a tear. (first time this year over a movie). She made me a fan. The audience was able to understand and feel her every struglle literally step by step..BRAVA!

Hated it. Boring and Witherspoon is totally miscast IMHO.
