It's time to get hooked on a new feeling -- the "Guardians" band is back together! Yesterday, Marvel Studios announced the start of principal photography for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which has a release date of May 5, 2017.

Vol. 2 brings back the usual suspects -- including writer/director James Gunn, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, and Michael Rooker as Yondu -- with the film now shooting at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta.

Here's the basic plot synopsis: "Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage." Maybe we should keep an eye on the new cast members for hints on that. Marvel announced that Kurt Russell, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan were joining the cast.

James Gunn shared the new cast scoop, and Marvel's first teaser photo, in a "stoked" Facebook post:

By the way, James Gunn also ranted about Hollywood misunderstanding the lessons of "Deadpool," so read his blast on that, if you haven't already. The guy is passionate, and he previously lashed out at rumors floating around about Peter Quill's father.

Back in November, Vin Diesel gushed about the Vol. 2 script, which he had just received along with a CD called "Awesome Mix Vol. 2":

"I can see why my son is so excited about this. James Gunn is such a great writer. I read the script and I go, you're a great director and you're this good a writer too? No wonder Marvel is so excited about what you do. ... It's one of those page-turners, you cannot put the script down."

Are you excited to see this sequel next year? Willing to risk James Gunn's wrath with speculation on Peter Quill's parentage?
