Won't you be Tom Hanks's neighbor?

Sony Pictures released the first image of the Oscar winner as Fred Rogers in its untitled biopic due out next year. In the photo, Hanks is wearing the children television host's classic red sweater and sneakers and sporting a playful grin.

Rogers was recently the subject of the acclaimed documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" But this biopic is a fictionalized tale of his life, based on the true story of his real-life friendship with journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys). A jaded magazine writer, Junod overcomes his skepticism and learns about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Hanks seems like the perfect fit to play Rogers: Both are famous for their decency and affable personalities. And judging by the official synopsis, the movie isn't looking to explore any "darker side" to Rogers, but rather reaffirm him as one of the kindest human beings this planet has ever known. So, bring tissues.

The biopic is slated for release next October 2019.
