HBO did not run a Super Bowl ad for the upcoming final season of "Game of Thrones," but the fantasy epic made a surprise cameo in a Bud Light commercial.

Bud Light has been running a medieval-themed campaign, called "Dilly Dilly," for some time now. This particular ad featured The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) once again destroying an opponent — thought not in as gruesome fashion as he once did to the Viper. But the big jaw-dropper was when a dragon appeared in the sky to blast the entire jousting tournament with flames.

Bud Light released an extended version of the Super Bowl ad:

The Wall Street Journal has the inside scoop on how the crossover came about, calling it "“biggest and boldest marketing tie-ins the AT&T Inc.-owned cable network has ever orchestrated."

Not only did the ad feature a "Game of Thrones" actor and the special-effects dragon, part of it was directed by David Nutter, a "GOT" veteran. And the extended version features a brief snippet of the song "Rains of Castamere," the infamous tune played at the Red Wedding.

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 premieres April 14.
