October Sky - Classroom Dispute Over Rocket Experiment

Principal Turner: In the first place, you are not a member of this classroom.
Homer Hickam Jr: [students chuckle] Neither are you, Mr. Turner.
Freida Riley: Why don't you let the boy defend himself?
Turner: And in the second place, this rocket proves nothing. You've already admitted having lost a number of your rockets. You cannot prove conclusively that another one of them didn't start that fire.
Hickam: [starts drawing diagram of rocket trajectory] Yes, I can.
Turner: Are we to conclude, Mr. Hickam, that since leaving school, you've not only become an expert in rocket science, but in the field of trigonometry?
Hickam: I didn't say that I was a rock-
Turner: [students chuckle again] Obviously, you learned more in the coal mines than you did in high school.
Riley: Let the boy talk. Go ahead, Homer.
Hickam: [Explains diagram; writes on blackboard] Now, that fire was near Welch, just under three miles from our launch pad. And at the time of the fire, the best that we could do was 1.2 miles which is exactly where we found that rocket, Mr. Turner. See, Mr. Turner, that rocket fell for about 14 seconds, which means that it flew to an altitude of 3,000 feet according to the equation "S" equals one-half "A" "T" squared. Where "S" is the altitude, "A" is the gravity constant or 32 and "T" is the time it took for that rocket to come back down. Velocity equals acceleration times time.
Quentin Wilson: [mutters] Get him, Homer, get him.
Hickam: [students laugh again] Are you following this, Mr. Turner?
Turner: All right, we're all duly impressed. But do you mind telling me, if you did not start that fire, who did?

My Cousin Vinny - A Dispute Over Pool Wager

Vinny: Hey, Vincent LaGuardia Gambini--
Lisa: His name's J.T.
Vinny: J.T., I believe you and Lisa played a game of pool for two hundred dollars, which she won; I'm here to collect.
J.T.: How bout if I just kick your ass?
Vinny: Oh, a counteroffer. That's what we lawyers, I'm a lawyer, call that a counteroffer. Let me see, this is a tough decision you're givin’ me here. Get my ass kicked or collect two hundred dollars? Hmm, let me think. I could use a good ass kickin’, I'll be very honest with you. Nah, I think I'll just go with the two hundred.
J.T.: Over my dead body.
Vinny: You like to renegotiate as you go along, huh? Okay then, here's my counteroffer: do I have to kill you? What if I was just to kick the ever-lovin’ shit outta ya?
J.T.: In your dreams.
Vinny: Oh, no, no, no, in reality. If I was to kick the shit outta ya, do I get the money?
J.T.: [contemplates this] If you kick the shit outta me...
Vinny: Yeah.
J.T.: ...then you get the money.
Vinny: What happened? Rear-ended?
Neck Brace: No, I fell.
Vinny: [takes his coat off] Oh. Okay, let’s see if we agree on the terms. The choice now is: I get my ass kicked, or, option B: I kick your ass, and collect the 200. I'm goin’ wit option B, kickin’ your ass and collectin two-hundred dollars.
J.T.: Are we gon’ fight now?
Vinny: Yeah, first let me see the money.
J.T.: I have the money.
Vinny: All right, show it to me.
J.T.: I can get it.
Vinny: You can get it? All right, get it. Then we'll fight.
Vinny: Did you fall in your place, or somebody else’s?
Neck Brace: My place.
Vinny: Shit.

Apollo 13 - Contingency Plans Amidst Medical Concerns

Deke Slayton: [He and Dr. Chuck find Lovell observing the rocket and launch pad being transported] Jim, we've got a problem.
Dr. Chuck: I just got some blood work back from the lab. Charlie Duke has the measles.
Jim Lovell: [Unconcerned] So, we need a new backup.
Dr. Chuck: You've all been exposed to it.
Jim Lovell: Oh, I've had the measles.
Deke Slayton: Ken Mattingly hasn't.
Jim Lovell: You want to break up my crew two days before the launch; when we can predict each others moves, we can read the tone of each others voices?
Dr. Chuck: Ken Mattingly will be getting seriously ill precisely when you and Haise will be ascending from the lunar surface to rendezvous with him.
Deke Slayton: Jim, that's a lousy time for a fever.
Jim Lovell: All right, now look, Jack Swigert has been out of the loop for weeks.
Chris Kraft: He's fully qualified to fly this mission.
Jim Lovell: He's a fine pilot, but when was the last time he was in a simulator?
Chris Kraft: I'm sorry, Jim, I understand how you feel. Now we can do one of two things here. We can either scrub Mattingly and go with Swigert, or we can bump all three of you to a later mission.
Jim Lovell: I've trained for the Fra Mauro highlands, and this is flight surgeon horseshit, Deke!
Deke Slayton: Jim, if you hold out for Ken, you will not be on Apollo 13. It's your decision.
