Doudja Abdoun Biography

Doudja Abdoun (دوجة عبدون), born January 23, 1923 in the Casbah of Algiers, known under the name "Khalti Djoudja", is an Algerian comedian and actress. Raised by her stepmother, she began her career in the seventies with “The Fire” (El Hariq), adapted from the novel by Mohamed Dib and directed by Mustapha Badie. Then, she notably starred in the films “Le Prix Du Rêve”, “Leila Et Les Autres”, directed by Sid Ali Mazif.

She was also asked for sitcoms in 2002 and 2005 including, among others, Ness M'Lah City 1 and 2, directed by Djaffer Gacem. Always in seroual and with a scarf tied around her head, she embodied the typical caring Algerian grandmother. She burst onto the screen with her candor and generosity, notably in her last role, that of grandmother Khoukha in the successful sitcom “Djemai Family” by director Djaâfar Gassem.

"Khalti Doudja", died at the age of 86, on October 10, 2008, following a muscular illness. She is buried in the El Kettar cemetery in Algiers.
