Hédi Fried Biography
Hédi Fried, born Szmuk, is a Hungarian/Swedish Holocaust survivor. On May 14, 1944, Hédi and her family, along with other Hungarian Jews, were deported in freight wagons from Sighet. After three days Hédi ended up in Auschwitz-Birkenau, where she and her younger sister Livia was separated from their parents. The parents were murdered on the night between May 17 and 18, 1944, in one of the gas chambers in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
