Cat's Eye - Confrontation Between Dick and the Drunk Businessman

Richard "Dick" Morrison: [after being offered a cigarette at a party] Why don't you shove them up your ass, Hal?
Drunk businessman: What? Lit?

The Talented Mr. Ripley - Frustration with Missed Opportunities and Wastefulness

Herbert Greenleaf: [abruptly turning his attention to a street musician] What a waste of lives and opportunities. I'd pay that fellow $100 right now to shut up.

The Talented Mr. Ripley - The Complexity of Family Relationships

Herbert Greenleaf: You know, people always say that you can't choose your parents, but you can't choose your children...

Lorenzo's Oil - Confronting Suffering and Denial in Parenthood

Ellard Muscatine: When Michael, our first boy, got sick we searched around looking for anything that might help him. You wanna know the best thing that happened? He was taken quickly. Now Tommy... he has lasted three years, and for two of them, he's been without his sight, his mind, everything that makes him a human being, he's a vegetable. Y'know if you would just stop all this denial, you wouldn't do a thing to prolong your boy's suffering and indignity one minute longer.
Loretta Muscatine: Has it occurred to you that maybe he doesn't want to be around anymore?

Scent of a Woman - Confrontation Over Integrity and Consequences

Trask: I'm going to recommend to the Disciplinary Committee... that you be expelled, Mr. Simms. You are a coverup artist and you are a liar.
Col. Slade: But not a snitch!
Trask: Excuse me?
Col. Slade: No, I don't think I will.
Trask: Mr. Slade...
Col. Slade: This is such a crock of shit!
Trask: Please watch your language, Mr. Slade. You are in the Baird School, not a barracks. Mr. Simms, I will give you one final opportunity to speak up-
Col. Slade: Mr. Simms doesn't want it. He doesn't need to be labeled, "still worthy of being a Baird Man.'" What the hell is that? What is your motto here? "Boys, inform on your classmates, save your hide. Anything short of that, we're gonna burn you at the stake."? Well, gentlemen! When the shit hits the fan, some guys run and some guys stay. Here's Charlie, facing the fire, and there's George, hiding in Big Daddy's pocket. And what are you doing? You're gonna reward George, and destroy Charlie.
Trask: Are you finished, Mr. Slade?
Col. Slade: [[William Howard Taft; [William Jennings Bryan] No, I'm just gettin warmed up. I don't know who went to this place, ], ], William Tell, whoever. Their spirit is dead; if they ever had one, it's gone. You're building a rat ship here, a vessel for sea-going snitches. And if you think you're preparing these minnows for manhood, you better think again. Because I say you are killing the very spirit this institution proclaims it instills! What a sham! What kind of show are you guys puttin on here today? I mean, the only class in this act is sittin next to me. And I'm here to tell you, this boy's soul is intact. It's non-negotiable. You know how I know? Someone here—and I'm not gonna say who—offered to buy it. Only Charlie here wasn't selling.
Mr.Trask: [Bangs his gavel] Sir, you're out of order!
Col. Slade: [stands up; bangs his umbrella on the table] Out of order? I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr. Trask. I'd show you, but I'm too old, I'm too tired, I'm too fuckin blind. If I were the man I was five years ago, I'd take a flamethrower to this place! Out of order?! Who the hell you think you're talking to?! I've been around, you know? There was a time I could see! And I have seen—boys like these, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs ripped off! But there is nothin like the sight of an amputated spirit. There is . . . no prosthetic for that. You think you're merely sending this splendid foot-soldier back home to Oregon with his tail between his legs, but I say you are executing his soul! And why? Because he's not a "Baird man". Baird men. You hurt this boy, you're going to be Baird bums, the lot of ya. And Harry, Jimmy, Trent, wherever you are out there—fuck you too!
Mr. Trask: [Bangs his gavel repeatedly] Stand down, Mr. Slade!
Col. Slade: [pause; sits down; round of applause from audience] I'm not finished! As I came in here, I heard those words, "cradle of leadership". Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall and it has fallen here, it has fallen! Makers of men, creators of leaders—be careful what kind of leaders you're producing here. I don't know if Charlie's silence here today is right or wrong; I'm not a judge or jury. But I can tell you this: he won't sell anybody out to buy his future! And that, my friends, is called integrity! That's called courage! Now that's the stuff leaders should be made of. Now I have come to the crossroads in my life. I always knew what the right path was; without exception, I knew. But I never took it. You know why? It was too . . . damn . . . hard. Now here's Charlie. He's come to the crossroads. He has chosen a path. It's the right path. It's a path made of principle, that leads to character. Let him continue on his journey. You hold this boy's future in your hands, Committee! It's a valuable future. Believe me! Don't destroy it! Protect it. Embrace it. It's gonna make you proud one day, I promise you. How's that for cornball?

Scent of a Woman - Empowerment and Opportunity in Higher Education

Mr. Trask: One of the few perks of this office is that I am empowered to handle certain matters as I see fit. Do you understand?
Charlie Simms: Yes, sir.
Mr. Trask: Good. The Dean of Admissions at Harvard and I have an arrangement. Along with the usual sheaf of applicants submitted, of which virtually two-thirds are guaranteed admittance, I add one name. Somebody who's a standout. And yet, underprivileged. A student who cannot afford to pay the board and tuition in Cambridge. Do you know on whose behalf I drafted a memo this year?
Charlie: No, sir.
Mr. Trask: You. You, Mr. Simms. Now, can you tell me who did it?
Charlie: No, sir, I can't.
Mr. Trask: You take the weekend to think about it, Mr. Simms. Good afternoon.

Scent of a Woman - Preserving Institutional Values Amid Societal Disrespect

Mr. Trask: I called an open meeting of this institution this morning because the incident that occurred this Tuesday last describes an issue that concerns all of us. Not an isolated case of vandalism, what happened is a symptom of a sickness in this society. A sickness which runs counter to the principles this school was founded on. A school among whose graduates, two have sat behind the desk in the Oval Office, in the White House. Baird men have run state departments, investment houses. Founded department stores, coached football teams. Our alumni receive their bulletins in ashrams in India and in palaces in Jordan: we are, in fact, known around the world as the cradle of this country's leadership. A beacon to the nations. But today, we are bleeding from disrespect. Blatant disrespect. Disrespect for our values, and disrespect for our standards. A disrespect for the Baird tradition. And, as the custodians of that tradition, we are here today to protect each other from those who threaten it.

The Game - Unexpected Choices in a High-Stakes Situation

New Member Ted: This was the best one ever!
Jim Feingold: [shakes Nicholas's hand] You know, thank God you jumped, because if you didn't, I was supposed to throw you off!

The Game - Improv and Personal Connections in Work

Nicholas: Lionel Fisher, I love your work.
Jim Feingold: Okay, please. Look, I, uh... I got my kids.
Nicholas: Get rid of them.
Jim Feingold: All right, guys, uh, guys. Snack time. More snacks. Here, go, go, go. That's all. Uh... It was just a job. Nothing personal. You know. I mean, I play my part, improvise a little. I mean, it's what I'm good at...
Nicholas: I need to talk to who's in charge.
Jim Feingold: Nobody knows. I mean nobody gets a big picture... Hey, Tammy, Alex cut it out. Damn it, why do they do that?
Nicholas: Your offices are empty. I need to find out where they are.
Jim Feingold: Look, they own the whole building. They just move from floor to floor.
Nicholas: And you work for them, right? You can get me in.
Jim Feingold: No, I can't.
Nicholas: Oh, yes, you can. You can tell them the police called. You got to speak to someone. You tell them I'm gonna blow the whistle on them.
Jim Feingold: What whistle? There's no fucking whistle. This is very dangerous. I don't think that you understand.
Nicholas: Right now I am extremely dangerous.
Jim Feingold: [after driving] Michael, guys. Come on, we're leaving. Well, we're here.
Nicholas: Drive in.
Jim Feingold: What're you gonna do, anyway? You won't get your money back.
Nicholas: I don't care about money. I'm pulling back the curtain. I wanna meet the wizard.

The Game - A Personalized Experience: The Nature of the Game

Nicholas: No, what is this for? What are you... selling?
Jim Feingold: Oh. It's a game.
Nicholas: A game?
Jim Feingold: Specifically tailored for each participant. Think of it as a great vacation. Except you don't go to it, it comes to you.
Nicholas: What... What kind of vacation?
Jim Feingold: It's different every time.
Nicholas: Humor me with specifics.
Jim Feingold: We provide whatever's lacking.
Nicholas: And what if nothing is lacking?
Jim Feingold: May I make two suggestions?
Nicholas: You really think that I'll participate without knowing any...
Jim Feingold: First, admit to yourself that it sounds intriguing. Second, you don't have to decide today. Take the silly test, fill out the stupid forms. One day, your game begins. You either love it or hate it. Decide then. You know we...We are like an experiential book-of-the-month club. You can drop out at any time with no further obligation. That was my sales pitch.
