Sério Fernandes Biography

Sério Fernandes (Porto, 1946). He was an advertising director for Portuguese agencies and for Agence Havas. In 1974, he founded the production company Beifilme in Porto, where he produced and directed dozens of short, medium-length and feature films, including: “Coéforas”, “4'27‘’ do Mar de Francelos”, “A Entrada de Cristo no Porto”, “Nascimento do Sol Negro”, “Cisnes Negros”, “Viagem no Douro”, “Chico Fininho”, “Odisseu”, “Porto State of Art”.

In 2003/04, he directed the feature films “Porto Porto” and “Quando eu Morrer vestir-se de Andorinha e voltar sempre na Primavera”. He was a teacher at ESAP between 1991 and 2015, teaching film directing. With his students, he shot dozens of films in Porto, from Minho to the Algarve, and in cities such as Paris, Barcelona and Brussels; in Africa, he shot the films “Morrer Sim Mas Devagar”, in Alcácer Quibir/Morocco, “Lava Crioula” on Fogo Island/Cape Verde and “Ecticoga” in Orango-Bijagós/Guinea Bissau.

With former students, he has also filmed in Brazil, the Sertão and Amazonia, Macau and the Azores. The making of these films is based on the Quadro Artístico Cinematográfico, the absolute matrix unit of the aesthetically named Escola do Porto.
