Plot
Follows Prince Naseem Hamed from his humble beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership, Naz’s unorthodox style, cocky persona, and sheer dominance in the ring propelled them to the top of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of ’80s and 90’s Britain.

Giant Review

Boxing Biopic ‘Giant’ Gets in the Ring but Ends Up Far From a Knockout. Pierce Brosnan and Amir El-Masry star in the real-life story of “Prince” Naseem Hamed, the British featherweight boxer who became a world champion. We’ve had something of a run on boxing biopics of late, between the likes of ‘Christy’ and ‘The Fire Inside'. Add one more to the list via ‘Giant’, which follows the fraught relationship between British fighter “Prince” Naseem Hamed and his trainer, Brendan Ingle.

The biggest question for a movie such as this is can it duck and weave away from the critical punches of typical biopic cliches. For the most part, this sadly cannot.
