Life Always Finds a Way

Ian Malcolm: I'm simply saying that life, uh…finds a way.

The Limits of Control in Nature

Ian Malcolm: John, the kind of control you're attempting simply is…it's not possible. If there is one thing the history of evolution has taught us it's that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh…well, there it is.

The Dilemma of Scientific Responsibility

Ian Malcolm: Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.

A Child's Wonder Reimagined in Reality

Dr. Alan Grant: [on the Triceratops] Ellie, this one was always my favorite when I was a kid. And now I've seen one, it's the most beautiful thing I ever saw.

Decision Against Endorsing the Park

Dr. Alan Grant: Hammond, after some consideration, I've decided not to endorse your park.

Instinct Overpowers Suppression in Nature

Dr. Alan Grant: [[Tyrannosaurus|T. rex] ] doesn't want to be fed. He wants to hunt. Can't just suppress 65 million years of gut instinct.

Unexpected Consequences of a New Era

Dr. Alan Grant: The world has just changed so radically, and we're all running to catch up. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but look… Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by 65 million years of evolution, have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?

Observations on Dinosaur Behavior

Dr. Alan Grant: [stunned after seeing the dinosaurs for the first time] They're moving in herds. They do move in herds.

Discovery of a dinosaur by Dr. Grant

Dr. Alan Grant: [seeing the Brachiosaur for the first time] Uh…it's…it's a dinosaur!

Respecting the Predator: A Cautionary Tale

Dr. Alan Grant: [responding to an unimpressed 10-year-old; [Tyrannosaurus|T. rex; [Velociraptor; brings two fingers together with a whooshing sound; beat; produces a claw; makes slashing motions below the child's chest; above the groin] Now try to imagine yourself in the Cretaceous Period. You get your first look at this "six foot turkey" as you enter a clearing. He moves like a bird, lightly, bobbing his head. And you keep still because you think that maybe his visual acuity is based on movement like ]; he'll lose you if you don't move. But no, not ]. You stare at him…and he just stares right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side. From the other two raptors…you didn't even know were there. Because Velociraptors a pack hunter, you see, he uses coordinated attack patterns and he is out in force today. And he slashes at you with this: a six-inch retractable claw, like a razor, on the middle toe. He doesn't bother to bite your jugular like a lion, oh no…he slashes at you here or here… or maybe across the belly, spilling your intestines. The point is, you are alive when they start to eat you. So, you know…try to show a little respect.
