The evening of the day dedicated to Saint Blas, patron saint of Paraguay, Thursday, February 2, 1989, seemed peaceful. However, the night brought an event that took almost everyone by surprise. A coup d'état deposed General Alfredo Stroessner, dictator for 35 years, the longest in all of South America.
