Jorge Antunes, a pioneer of electronic music in Brazil, emerged in this musical genre in 1961. Today he is considered one of the most important composers of experimental classical music in Brazil, and is considered by international critics to be the "leader of avant-garde music in Brazil". Many of his works are politically engaged: the composer is a political activist, member and leader of the PSOL (Socialism and Freedom Party).
