Legendary British cricket player Sam Palmer (Jack Warner) is preparing to play against the Australians in the final match of his career. Reggie (Ray Jackson), Sam's poet son, decides not to attend his father's penultimate game, which disappoints Sam. Reggie hopes to watch his father's last match, but when he is invited to meet with acclaimed poet Alexander Whitehead (Robert Morley), he faces a difficult decision. What Reggie doesn't anticipate is that Alexander is a cricket fan himself.
