Ambitious Plans for a Diabolical Scheme
Professor Ratigan My friends! We are about to embark on the most odious, the most evil, the most diabolical scheme of my illustrious career! A crime to top all crimes, a crime that will live in infamy! Tomorrow evening, our beloved monarch celebrates her Diamond Jubilee. And... with the enthusiastic help of our good friend, Mr. Flaversham... it promises to be a night she may never forget! Her last night... and my first, as supreme ruler of all mousedom!
[The henchmen cheered. Ratigan holds up a newspaper featuring the Queen's picture on the front page.; The henchmen chuckle; burns her picture with his cigarette. The henchmen gasp in terror; The henchmen cheer.]
Recognizing a Genius Twisted for Evil
Basil of Baker Street He's a genius, Dawson! A genius twisted for evil! The ] of Crime!
[about Professor Ratigan; [Napoleon]
Professor Ratigan's Frustration with Basil
Professor Ratigan How dare that idiot Basil poke his stupid nose into my wonderful scheme and foul up everything?
[Rubbing his head, irritated]
A Monstrous Scheme Unfolds
Professor Ratigan Quite an ingenious scheme, eh, Flaversham? And aren’t you proud to be a part of it?
[Chuckles evilly]
Hiram Flaversham This whole thing…i-i-it’s monstrous!
Professor Ratigan We will have our device ready by tomorrow evening, won’t we? You know what will happen if you…fail?
Hiram Flaversham I-I-I don’t care!
Hiram Flaversham You can do what you want with me. I won’t be a part of this… this…this evil any longer!
Professor Ratigan Mmm… Very well. If that is your decision. Oh, uh, by the way, I’m taking the liberty of having your daughter brought here.
[Biting off rage; Normally; He picks up Olivia's ballerina doll and winds it up.]
Hiram Flaversham O-Olivia?
Professor Ratigan Yes. Hm-hm, yes.
Professor Ratigan I would spend many a sleepless night if anything unfortunate were to befall her.
[Mockingly]
Hiram Flaversham You…you wouldn’t?!
Professor Ratigan FINISH IT, FLAVERSHAM!!
[Yelling]
Professor Ratigan Oh, I love it when I’m nasty.
Professor Ratigan Fidget?
Professor Ratigan FIDGET!
[Calling back]
Professor Ratigan Bright and alert as always. Here’s the list. You know what to do, and no mistakes!
Fidget No, no. No mistakes, sir. Tools, gears, girl, uniforms…
[quickly reads the list.]
Professor Ratigan NOW, Fidget!
Fidget I’m going, I’m going! I’m going!
[rushes over to a drain grate, lifts it up and disappears below.]
A Delightful Dilemma of Demise
Professor Ratigan You don't know what a delightful dilemma it was, trying to decide on the most appropriate method for your demise. Oh, I had so many ingenious ideas I didn't know which to choose. So I decided to use them all. Marvelous, isn't it? Oh, ho, but, here, let me show you how it works. Picture this, first, a sprightly tune I've recorded especially for you. As the song plays, the cord tightens, and when the song ends, the metal ball is released, rolling along its merry way until... Snap! Boom! Twang! Thunk! SPLAT! And so ends the short, undistinguished career of Basil of Baker Street.
[the camera zooms out to show many various weapons aimed at the mousetrap; gestures to mousetrap; gestures to gun; gestures to crossbow; gestures to axe; gestures to anvil]
Fidget's Checklist and Basil's Commands
Fidget Get the following. Tools, check. I got tools. Gears, double check. I got gears. Girl… No, didn’t get girl. Uniforms… I got plenty of uniforms! Oh, no, oh, no. I gotta hide! I gotta hide! Ooh, I gotta hide!
[Remembering he does not have Olivia yet, he makes a check and then erases it.; Chuckles; He chuckles again, and is then startled as Toby howls outside.; Fidget grabs the hats from the soldiers and stuffs them into his bag. He jumps on top of a clown toy and onto a higher shelf, as the list flutters in front of the toy soldiers without him noticing.]
Basil of Baker Street Splendid job, Toby!
Basil of Baker Street Now Toby…sit!
Basil of Baker Street Toby, sit.
Olivia Flaversham Sit, Toby.
Basil of Baker Street Good boy. If you’ll excuse me.
[Moving past Olivia…]
Olivia Flaversham You be good now. We’re going to find my father.
[To Toby]
Basil of Baker Street Ah-ha! Here is our friend’s entrance.
Dr. David Q. Dawson But Basil, how could he fit through such a tiny…
Basil of Baker Street Observe, Doctor.
[takes Dawson's hand and sticks one of his fingers into the hole. He watches confidently as Dawson pulls his hand back, displaying that Fidget has used the window as a door.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Basil, you astound me!
Dr. David Q. Dawson Ooh! I beg your pardon, I- Oh my. Upon my word I’ve never seen so many toys.
[He stops when he sees that what he hit was a huge doll. He and Olivia look around the toy store.]
Basil of Baker Street Behind any of which could lurk a bloodthirsty assassin! So please, Doctor…be very careful.
[Warningly darts out from behind the doll’s leg.]
Basil of Baker Street Oh! What the dev… Ooh!
Basil of Baker Street Please! Quiet! Don’t let this girl out of your sight!
[Intensely; Softly; To Dawson]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Now, Olivia dear, stay close.
Basil of Baker Street Hmm. Checkmate. Ah-ha! Evidence of our peg-legged adversary. Hmm… how very odd.
[He pushes the rook over one space.; holds his magnifying glass to his eye, staring at Fidget's footprints.; hums as he follows the footprints, stopping at the rows of naked toy soldiers.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson What is it, Basil?
Basil of Baker Street Isn’t it painfully obvious, Doctor? These dolls have been stripped of their uniforms. And not by any child, either. Hello. Someone has taken the liberty of removing the clockwork mechanisms from these toys.
[More exasperated; He and Olivia glance at each other as they both examine the footprints. Basil looks over his shoulder, having seen more strange evidence.; He looks around the insides of mechanical toys, where all the gears are missing.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Basil…
Basil of Baker Street Please, I’m trying to concentrate.
Dr. David Q. Dawson But Basil, I-I-
Dr. David Q. Dawson Olivia!
Fidget Gotcha!
[throws her in his bag.]
Basil of Baker Street Quickly, Doctor!
Basil of Baker Street Ah, ya, ah! Look out!
Fidget Bye-bye.
[Laughing; He opens the window again, and is nearly eaten by Toby, who barks and growls at the exit. Fidget slams the window shut and climbs up the cash register and back onto the shelves.]
Basil of Baker Street Stop, you fiend!
Olivia Flaversham Help! Mister Basil, help! Help!
[Muffled]
Fidget I got the gears, I got the tools, I got the uniforms, I got the girl, heh-heh-heh-heh!
[Singsong voice]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Basil! Basil! Basil! Olivia, she's…
[finds Basil with his leg tangled to a doll's pull string]
Basil of Baker Street Yes! She's gone, Dawson! Confound it! I told you to watch over the girl! Now she's been spirited away by that maniacal little monster! Soon to be in the clutch of the most depraved mind in all of London! I should've known better than to… than to… Dawson? I say! Dawson old chap!
[frees himself from the pull string]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Poor girl. I should have watched her more closely.
Basil of Baker Street Don't worry, old fellow. It's not entirely hopeless.
Dr. David Q. Dawson Do you think there's a chance?
Basil of Baker Street There's always a chance, Doctor! As long as one can think.
Dr. David Q. Dawson Get the following: Tools, Gears...
[finds Fidget's checklist; reads:]
Basil of Baker Street What?
Dr. David Q. Dawson Girl...
Basil of Baker Street Get the following...
Dr. David Q. Dawson Unif-
Basil of Baker Street Dawson, you've done it! This list is precisely what we need!
Dr. David Q. Dawson What?
Basil of Baker Street Quickly! Back to Baker Street!
A Tribute to the Queen's Reign
The Mouse Queen To our beloved Queen, this gift we send, as her sixty-year reign.... comes to an end?
[reading Professor Ratigan's letter]
Professor Ratigan's Praise and Expectation
Professor Ratigan Bravo, Basil! A marvelous performance. Though frankly, I expected you 15 minutes earlier. Trouble with the chemistry set, old boy?
Basil's Opinion of Ratigan
Basil of Baker Street Ratigan, no one can have a higher opinion of you than I have. And I think that you are a slimy, contemptible sewer rat!
[in an almost friendly tone; furiously]
Acknowledging Our Unrefined Nature
Basil of Baker Street Remember, Dawson, we're low-life ruffians.
Olivia's Search for Her Father
Olivia Flaversham Dad, where are you?! Father... where are you?!! Papa! DADDY!
[after the fight's over with Fidget, door closes, and the cupboard door, Olivia was put in, creaks open with big mess.; goes to a window; echoes noise]
The Threat of Ratigan's Schemes
Basil of Baker Street Not a corner of London is safe while Ratigan is at large. There's no evil scheme he wouldn't concoct, no depravity he wouldn't commit! Who knows what dastardly scheme that that villain may be plotting even as we speak?
The Importance of Thinking in Uncertainty
Basil of Baker Street There's always a chance, Doctor, as long as one can think.
A Warm Welcome for a Visitor
Dr. David Q. Dawson Good evening, Madam. Is this the residence of Basil of Baker Street?
Mrs. Judson I’m afraid it is. He’s not here at the moment, but you’re welcome to come in and wait.
Dr. David Q. Dawson Oh, I-I don’t want to impose. It’s just…the girl.
Mrs. Judson Oh my! You poor dear! You must be chilled to the bone! Oh, but I know just the thing. Let me fetch you a pot of tea and some of my fresh cheese crumpets.
[Concerned; She takes off Olivia’s hat and wrings it dry, then removes the girl’s scarf.; Mrs. Judson rushes to the kitchen and shuts the door.]
Basil’s Voice Ah-ha! The villain’s slipped this time! I shall have him! Out of my way! Out of my way!
[Triumphantly; The door bursts open to reveal a large mouse dressed in Chinese robes. He smiles triumphantly with a gun in his hand as lightning strikes. Dawson is petrified as the mouse bursts inside, rushing towards one of the many tables.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson I say, who - Who are you?
[His question is cut short as the mouse’s hat is thrown directly on his own head. He takes it off and addresses him once more.]
Basil’s Voice What? Oh?
[Speaking more normally; He pauses and turns to Dawson.]
Basil of Baker Street Basil of Baker Street, my good fellow.
[Formally]
Olivia Flaversham Mr. Basil! I need your help, and I-
Basil of Baker Street All in good time.
Olivia Flaversham But-but you don’t understand. I’m in terrible trouble.
[More desperately]
Basil of Baker Street If you’ll excuse me.
[Ignores'' Olivia]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Here, now, now. Now see here!
[Impatiently]
Dr. David Q. Dawson This young lady is in need of assistance. I think you ought…
Basil of Baker Street Will you hold this, please, Doctor?
[interrupts him by handing him the gun.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Of course.
[Dawson accepts gracefully…]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Ah, wait just a moment. How did you know I was a doctor?
[Puzzled]
Basil of Baker Street A surgeon, to be exact. Just returned from military duty in Afghanistan. Am I right?
Dr. David Q. Dawson Why… Oh, yes. Major David Q. Dawson. But how could you possibly-
[Chuckles]
Basil of Baker Street Quite simple, really. You’ve sewn your torn cuff together with the Lembert stitch, which of course, only a surgeon uses. And the thread is a unique form of catgut distinguished by its… …peculiar pungency…
[He holds up Dawson's arm to reveal a stitch mark on his jacket.; He continues speaking as he gathers several pillows.; whispers to Olivia]
Basil of Baker Street …found only in the Afghan provinces.
Dr. David Q. Dawson Amazing!
[Muffled]
Basil of Baker Street Actually it’s…elementary, my dear Dawson.
[Simply]
Mrs. Judson What in heaven’s name?! Oh! Oh! My… MY GOOD PILLOWS! MR. BASIL!
[Panicking; She soon discovers her pillows are nothing but feathers.; Distraught; She spits out several feathers.; She glares angrily in Basil's direction. He is kneeling in the chair, tossing the feathers aside.]
Mrs. Judson How many times have I told you not to…?
Basil of Baker Street There, there, Mrs. Judson, it’s quite all right. Ah… Mmm! I believe I smell some of those delightful cheese crumpets of yours. Why don’t you fetch our guests some?
[smells cheese crumpets from the kitchen.; Sniffs; He gently pushes Mrs. Judson back to the kitchen.]
Mrs. Judson But, ah, but, but…
Basil of Baker Street Now… I know that bullet’s here somewhere.
[shuts the door, silencing her.; He gets on his hands and knees and searches on the floor]
Basil of Baker Street Thank you, Miss…
[Grudgingly'', like Sylvester]
Olivia Flaversham Flaversham. Olivia Flaversham.
Basil of Baker Street Whatever.
[Distracted]
Olivia Flaversham Yes, but you don’t understand--
Basil of Baker Street Shhh! Yeah… . Yes! OH, NO! Drat! Another dead end. He was within my grasp.
[Basil opens a small box and pulls out another bullet. Taking the one he just fired, he puts them under a microscope and compares their markings. The first reading matches…; …so does the second one.; However, from the third direction, the markings go off in separate directions. He yells.; Depressed; Dejected, Basil tosses the extra bullet aside and slowly walks over to his chair.]
Olivia Flaversham Now will you please listen to me? My daddy’s gone and I’m all alone.
Basil of Baker Street Young lady, this is a most inopportune time. Surely your mother knows where he is.
[pauses temporarily, feeling still depressed; He resumes playing, but after seeing Olivia's sad face, decides to humor her.]
Olivia Flaversham I--- I don’t have a mother.
Basil of Baker Street Well… um… well, then perhaps… See here! I simply have no time for lost fathers.
[Uncertainly; Firmly; He turns away. Olivia is now annoyed, and puts her hands on her hips.]
Olivia Flaversham I didn’t lose him. He was taken by a bat.
[Defiantly]
Basil of Baker Street Did you say…BAT?
Olivia Flaversham Yes.
Basil of Baker Street Did he have a crippled wing?
[Expectantly]
Olivia Flaversham I don’t know. But he had a peg leg!
Basil of Baker Street HA!
Dr. David Q. Dawson I say, do you know him?
Basil of Baker Street Know him? That bat, one Fidget by name, is in the employ of the fiend who was the very target of my experiment! The horror of my every waking moment. The nefarious Professor Ratigan!
Dr. David Q. Dawson Uh…Ratigan?
Basil of Baker Street He’s a genius, Dawson. A genius… twisted for evil. The Napoleon of crime!
[He ducks down and reappears at the side.; Then he moves in front of the chair.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson As bad as all that, eh?
Basil of Baker Street Worse! For years, I’ve tried to capture him and I’ve come close… …so very close. But each time he’s narrowly evaded my grasp.
[Hoarsely; He stands and holds his fist out towards the picture.]
Basil of Baker Street Not a corner of London’s safe while Ratigan’s at large. There’s no evil scheme he wouldn’t concoct! No depravity he wouldn’t commit.
Basil of Baker Street Who knows what dastardly scheme that villain may be plotting even as we speak…
A Family Reunion Amidst Danger
Professor Ratigan Ah, Mr. Flaversham.
Professor Ratigan Allow me to present… …your charming daughter!
[Ratigan moves his cape to reveal Olivia in Fidget's grasp.]
Hiram Flaversham Olivia!
Olivia Flaversham Father!
Fidget Owww! My foot, my only foot!
Hiram Flaversham Oh, there, there, there, there, my bairn. I’m all right. Oh, I was so worried about my little girl.
Professor Ratigan Oh, how sweet. Oh, I just love tearful reunions. Now, come along, my dear.
[He pretends to wipe at his eyes with his handkerchief, crying.; The rat then grabs the young girl back.]
Olivia Flaversham Oh please! Please! Father!
[She reaches out towards Flaversham as Fidget takes her away.]
Hiram Flaversham Olivia! Oh, please, professor!
Professor Ratigan Now, now, Fidget will take good care of her. That is, as long as we have no further delays!
[Threateningly]
Hiram Flaversham Yes, yes, I-I’ll finish it. Oh, just don’t hurt my daughter.
[fearfully returns to work on the robot.]
Professor Ratigan Remember, it must be ready…tonight!
[He slams the door.]
Olivia Flaversham Stop! Let me go! You ugly old thing!
Fidget That ought to hold ya!
[pushes her inside and puts the cork in the bottle.]
Olivia Flaversham Help! LET ME OUT! LET ME OUT!!!
[gets in the green bottle by the cork, yelling]
Fidget See how you like that!
[He blows her raspberry, then strides away towards Ratigan, who is looking through the bag.]
Professor Ratigan Ah, the uniforms! Oh, Fidget, I knew I could rely on you. Now, you didn't forget anything?
Fidget No problem. I took care of everything. Everything on the list. Uh-oh.
[tries to display the list, but finds it's not there]
Professor Ratigan What's wrong?
Fidget The list, but I knew I had it!
[searching himself, to no avail]
Professor Ratigan Where's the list?
Fidget Well, you see, it was.... It was like this; I was in the toy store, getting the uniforms, when I heard a Aroo! Aroo!
[reenacting]
Professor Ratigan You're not coming through.
[irritated]
Fidget A dog came. I ran! I had a baby bonnet, girl in bag, and Basil… he chase me!
[reenacting still]
Professor Ratigan What?! (You know what, Fidget) BASIL ON THE CASE?! WHY, YOU GIBBERING LITTLE--!!! Oh, my dear Fidget. You have been hanging upside down too long.
[shocked; furious; groans as he holds his anger in, then calms down and picks Fidget up]
Fidget You mean, you're not mad? I'm glad you're taking it so well. Not me, you idiot! No, stop, you stupid furball! Open up! Open up! Oh! Ay! Ah! Ooh! You're hurting my wing!
[Professor Ratigan takes Fidget behind a wall. A bell is heard ringing and screaming soon follows. Cut to Felicia holding a struggling Fidget in her paw, about to eat him; He breaks free, but Felicia catches him and stuffs him into her mouth]
Professor Ratigan How dare that idiot Basil pokes his stupid nose into my wonderful scheme and foul up everything?!
[ranting to himself]
Fidget Let me out! Let me out! Help!
[inside Felicia's mouth; opens Felicia's mouth and still struggling for help; Felicia puts Fidget backs in her mouth with her finger]
Professor Ratigan Oh, I can just see that insufferable grin on his smug face! Yes. Yes, I can just see it. Felicia, release him.
[realizes something]
Fidget I'm too young to die!
[inside Felicia's mouth]
Professor Ratigan Fidget, you delightful little maniac. You've presented me with a singular opportunity. Poor Basil. Oh, he's in for a little surprise.
[holding Fidget up by his cheeks; drops Fidget, feigning a look of concern]
Confidence in Basil's Abilities Against the Villain
Olivia Flaversham Just wait! Basil's smarter than you! He's going to put you in jail. He's not afraid of a big, old, ugly, rat like youǃ
[to Ratigan; tugs on his tail to accent her next few insults.; '''Professor Ratigan''': Would you kindly sit down and shut up?!]
Intriguing Case of a Missing Toy Maker
Basil of Baker Street This case is most intriguing with its multiplicity of elements…its many twists and turns. Now, you’re certain you’ve told me everything? The slightest detail may be important.
[He turns to Olivia.]
Olivia Flaversham It’s just as I said. And then my father was gone.
Dr. David Q. Dawson What do you make of it?
Basil of Baker Street Hmm. Ratigan’s up to something. A crime of the most sinister nature no doubt. The question is…what would he want with a toy maker?
[begins to pace as Olivia follows him.]
Olivia Flaversham Aaaaaaah!
Basil of Baker Street Quickly, Dawson, we’ve not a moment to lose!
Dr. David Q. Dawson Uh, uh I’m right behind you, Basil.
Dr. David Q. Dawson No sign of the blackguard anywhere.
Basil of Baker Street Not quite, Dawson. He left some rather unusual footprints. They obviously belong to the same fiend who abducted the girl’s father - Ratigan’s peg-legged lackey.
Dr. David Q. Dawson Uh…Basil?
Basil of Baker Street Ah-ha! Excellent work, old man. Ha, ha, ha!
[delighted, snatching up the hat.]
Mrs. Judson Now… there’s nothing to be afraid of, my dear.
Dr. David Q. Dawson The scoundrel’s quite gone.
[To Olivia]
Basil of Baker Street Ha-ha! But not for long, Miss Flamhammer.
Olivia Flaversham Flaversham!
[Exasperated]
Basil of Baker Street Whatever. Now, we simply pursue our peg-legged friend until he leads us to the girl’s father.
Olivia Flaversham Then you’ll get my daddy back?
[She rushes over and hugs Basil tightly.]
Basil of Baker Street Yes! And quite soon, if I’m not mistaken. Now, hurry along, Dawson. We must be off to…Toby’s.
[He pushes Olivia down and pulls his legs free from her grasp.; He retrieves an Inverness cape from a suit of armor and puts it on.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Toby's?
Basil of Baker Street Oh, you must meet him, he's just the chap for this.
Dr. David Q. Dawson You- You want me to come?
Basil of Baker Street Hah! I should think a stout-hearted army mouse like you would surely leap at the chance for adventure!
Dr. David Q. Dawson Well, I am rather curious.
[chuckles]
Olivia Flaversham Wait for me! I'm coming, too!
[her hat and scarf knocks over Basil's violin in the process. He dives down to catch it]
Basil of Baker Street What?! Certainly not! This is no business for children. Isn't it?
[sets the violin back on the chair]
Olivia Flaversham Are we going to take a cab?
Basil of Baker Street My dear, I don't think you'd understand. It will be quite dangerous. Why you-! Look what- Young lady, you are most definitely NOT accompanying us! AND THAT IS FINAL!!!!!
[puts his hand on his forehead with a sigh as Olivia puts several crumpets into her pocket; sits on his violin, snapping it in two; restrains himself]
Professor Ratigan's Affectionate Praise for Fidget
Professor Ratigan Fidget, you delightful little maniac!
Professor Ratigan's Determination to Prevail
Professor Ratigan There's no escape this time, Basil!
A Conversation on Music and Introspection
Basil of Baker Street And not a word out of you. Is that clear?
Sherlock Holmes I observe that there’s a good deal of German music on the program. It is introspective, and I want to introspect.
Dr. Watson But Holmes, that music is so frightfully dull.
Sherlock Holmes Come along.
Basil of Baker Street Toby? Toby?
Olivia Flaversham Who is Toby?
Dr. David Q. Dawson Well my dear, Toby is… well, he’s uh, uh…
Dr. David Q. Dawson I say, Basil, who is this Toby chap?
Basil of Baker Street Ahh! Here he is now!
Basil of Baker Street Dawson…Toby.
Dr. David Q. Dawson Charmed, I’m sure.
Basil of Baker Street Now Toby! Toby, stop that! Toby, cease! Desist! Ha!
Basil of Baker Street Tsk, tsk, tsk. Frightfully sorry, old man. Toby has the most splendid sense of smell of any hound I’ve trained. But he can be deucedly frisky.
Olivia Flaversham Hello, Toby! Silly doggy! Would you like a crumpet?
[She pats his nose and Toby sniffs her again.]
Basil of Baker Street Here now, Toby? Toby! To the matter at hand. I want you to-
Basil of Baker Street Good, now Toby! Toby…I want you to find…this fiend! Yes, you know his type. A villain. A scoundrel! Low brow. Close set eyes. Broken wing.
[whips out Fidget's hat, and Toby starts to growl. He barks and growls along with Toby to drill the dog into searching for the bad guy.]
Basil of Baker Street Oh, he’s a peg-legged bat with a broken wing.
[Chortling]
Basil of Baker Street Yes! Yes! That’s the spirit! Got his scent?
Basil of Baker Street Good boy, good boy! Miss Flamchester!
[He turns to face Toby again, but he has turned around and is smiling at Olivia and Dawson. He moves in front of Toby.]
Olivia Flaversham and Dr. David Q. Dawson Flaversham!
Basil of Baker Street Whatever. Your father is as good as found. (He hooks on Toby's leash.) Toby…
Basil of Baker Street Sic ‘em!
Basil of Baker Street Ah-ha! Yoinks! Tally ho! Ha-ha! Ha-ha!
Basil of Baker Street The thrill of the hunt, eh, Dawson?
Dr. David Q. Dawson Q-q-quite!
Basil of Baker Street Oh-hoo-hoo. Our peg-legged quarry can’t be far now.
A Chance Encounter in London
Dawson’s voice It was the Eve of our good Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the year Her Majesty’s government came… to the very brink of disaster. She… Oh… I’m… I’m getting ahead of myself. My name is Dr. David Q. Dawson, most recently of the Queen’s 66th Regiment. I had just arrived in London after lengthy service in Afghanistan and was anxious to find a quiet place… …preferably dry…where I could rest and find a bit of peace. Little did I know, but my life was about to change forever.
[More forebodingly; chuckles; The camera focuses briefly on the passenger inside the carriage before it pans down, revealing Dr. Dawson sitting on the foot pedestal reading his paper.; The carriage stops, and after his human traveling companion departs, Dawson hops onto the sidewalk. He opens his paper again, and we see that he has marked several places available for rent.; As thunder booms in the distance, a drop of rain falls onto the paper; chuckling, Dawson notices this, folds up the paper and opens his umbrella.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Oh! Oh my! Are you all right, my dear? Come now, come, come. Here, dry your eyes. Ah, yes, that’s better. Now tell me, what’s troubling you, my dear?
[Olivia was heard crying.; Olivia turns to him. Dawson removes a handkerchief from his jacket pocket and hands it to her.; Olivia takes the handkerchief and blows her nose. She gives it back to Dawson and he puts it back in his pocket, taking a seat beside her.]
Olivia Flaversham I…I’m lost. I-I-I’m trying to find Basil of Baker Street.
[Sadly; She hands him a small newspaper clipping.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson Now, let me see here… "Famous detective solves baffling disappearance." Mmm, hmmm. But where are your mother and father?
[Dawson puts his bifocals on and reads the headline.; Reading headline]
Olivia Flaversham That’s why I m-m-must find Basil!
[More upset; She begins to sob into her scarf.]
Dr. David Q. Dawson There, there, there. Now, now, now. Well, I don’t know any Basil… …but I do remember where Baker Street is. Now, come with me. We’ll find this Basil chap together.
[Calmly; Olivia looks at him sadly, but then Dawson gives her a warm smile as he takes off his glasses.; Her face brightens a bit as Dawson reopens his umbrella.]
Desperate Plea for Freedom
Olivia Flaversham Stop! Let me go! You ugly old thing! Help, let me out! Let me out!
[to Fidget]
A Reminder to Smile for the Camera
Professor Ratigan Now, you will remember to smile for the camera, won't you?
Unexpected Turns Await Basil
Professor Ratigan Poor Basil. Oh, he is in for a surprise!
A Threat to Life and Safety
Professor Ratigan Stay where you are. Or the girl dies.
The Mouse Queen's Affection for Jubilees
The Mouse Queen Ah, I just adore Jubilees.
A Fondness for Wickedness
Professor Ratigan Oh, I love it when I'm nasty.
A Special Birthday Surprise Unfolds
Olivia Flaversham You know, Daddy, this is my very best birthday.
Hiram Flaversham Ahh…but I haven’t given you your present yet.
Olivia Flaversham What is it? What is it?
[Excited]
Hiram Flaversham Now, now. Close your eyes. Uh-uh-uh-uh. Auch, no. No peeking now.
[He moves to a small cupboard as Olivia tries to sneak a peek between her fingers.]
Olivia Flaversham Oh, Daddy! You made this just for me?
[Gasps]
Olivia Flaversham You’re the most wonderful father in the… in the whole world!
Olivia Flaversham Who is that?
Hiram Flaversham I-I don’t know! Quickly, dear, stay in here and don’t come out!
Fidget Now I gotcha, toy maker!
[Cackles]
Hiram Flaversham Oh, no! Olivia!
Olivia Flaversham Daddy, where are you? Daddy…where are you?! Daddy! DADDY!!
[Echoing]
Professor Ratigan's Instructions to Fidget
Professor Ratigan Fidget? Fidget?! Thank you. Bright and alert as always. Here's the list. You know what to do, and no mistakes.
[looks above the doorway to another barrel, where Fidget, the bat, is hanging from the faucet, sleeping; Fidget doesn't wake up, so Ratigan screams in his ear.; Startled, Fidget falls from his perch and rolls down the stairs at Rattigan's feet.; hands Fidget a list]
Professor Ratigan's Diabolical Scheme Unveiled
Professor Ratigan My friends, we are about to embark on the most odious, the most evil, the most diabolical scheme of my illustrious career. A crime to top all crimes…a crime that will live in infamy!
Professor Ratigan Tomorrow evening, our beloved monarch celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, and…with the enthusiastic help of our good friend, Mr. Flaversham…
Professor Ratigan …it promises to be a night she will never forget!
Professor Ratigan Her last night…and my first, as supreme ruler of all mousedom!
Professor Ratigan From the brain that brought you the Big Ben Caper The head that made headlines in every newspaper And wondrous things like the Tower Bridge Job That cunning display that made Londoners sob…
[Singing]
Professor Ratigan Now comes the real tour de force Tricky and wicked, of course My earlier crimes were fine for their times But now that I’m at it again.. An even grimmer plot has been simmering In my great criminal brain
[kicks Bartholomew into the fountain.]

[Singing]
Thugs You’re the best of the worst around Oh, Ratigan Oh, Ratigan The rest fall behind To Ratigan To Ratigan The world’s greatest criminal mind.
Professor Ratigan Thank you, Thank you. But it hasn’t all been champagne and caviar. I’ve had my share of adversity, thanks to that miserable second-rate detective, Basil of Baker Street.
Professor Ratigan For years, that insufferable pipsqueak has interfered with my plans. I haven’t had a moment’s peace of mind.
[Mock crying]
Thugs Aww!
Professor Ratigan But, all that’s in the past! This time, nothing, not even Basil, can stand in my way! All will bow before me!
Thugs Oh, Ratigan Oh, Ratigan You’re tops and that’s that To Ratigan To Ratigan…
[Singing]
Bartholomew To Ratigan, the world’s greatest rat!
[hiccups]
Professor Ratigan What was THAT?!

Professor Ratigan Tsk, tsk, tsk. Oh, Felicia, my precious, my baby. Did Daddy’s little honey bun enjoy her tasty treat?
[hugging Felicia'' ''fatherly'']
Professor Ratigan I trust there will be no further interruptions. : And now, as you were singing?
[He clears his throat and wraps his arms around his men.]
