Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star.

Sentimental Value Review

‘Sentimental Value’ Is A Profound Look At How Family And Art Collide. One of the best films of the year, Joachim Trier’s ‘Sentimental Value’ is wistful, moving, and brilliantly acted by Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård. Easily one of the best films of the year, ‘Sentimental Value’ is Joachim Trier’s follow-up to 2021’s ‘The Worst Person in the World,’ a character study disguised as a bittersweet rom-com.

‘Sentimental Value’ is also bittersweet, but it’s no romantic comedy: instead, it dissects the complicated relationship between a narcissistic but aging filmmaker and his two daughters in the wake of their mother’s death.
