The actor admitted it to "Late Show" appearance Tuesday night when the host asked him if he'd seen the box office giant.
"I got a lot going on," Cooper said. "I had a lot of work to do."
He clarified that it wasn't a protest or a statement on anything. In fact, he plans to see the film again when he doesn't have "too much in head" and can enjoy it. Still, like many of us, Colbert was shocked that Cooper had paid money to see a movie, only to decide midway through that he needed to step away. The late-night host jokingly likened it to making love to someone and deciding to take a break to get focused.
Cooper let Colbert have his fun for a bit, but then he deftly moved away from the subject, bringing up a movie he did watch in full, "I, Tonya." Well played, Cooper.
