"Ant-Man" is getting a sequel, but the pint-sized superhero won't be its only star.

Marvel announced the sequel's surprising title, "Ant-Man and the Wasp," as well as the movie's release date — July 6, 2018. "Ant-Man and the Wasp" will arrive right in the middle of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Phase 3."

This will be the first Marvel film with a female character in the title. Marvel has come under some criticism for a lack of female-centric movies; their first solo female superhero film, "Captain Marvel," which was slated for July 2018, is now hitting theaters in March 2019.

The addition of the Wasp to the "Ant-Man" sequel title indicates how popular Hope Van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly, was. It also hints at her increased importance in the future storyline. In a scene during the end credits, Hope was presented with the Wasp costume by her father, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas).

Ant-Man himself (Paul Rudd) will appear in "Captain America: Civil War," to pave the way for the character to join the new Avengers team. The sequel's scheduling right after "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1" leads us to wonder if the Wasp might become part of that crew, too.
