"The story you know is the lie they told you," proclaims the first full trailer for Ava Duvernay's upcoming Netflix miniseries "When They See Us."

The four-part drama, which premieres May 31, is based on the notorious true story of the five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise spent years in prison before finally being exonerated.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the attack.

With "Selma" and the documentary "13th," DuVernay has shown to have a deft hand at bringing stories of the past to reflect on and teach lessons about the present.

The miniseries stars Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Christopher Jackson, Joshua Jackson, and (prior to her scandal) Felicity Huffman.
