*Or* we could all just blame the writers.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

As you know, "Avengers: Infinity War" ended with the cliffhanger of a Thanos (Josh Brolin) win. He vaporized half the population, as planned, once he got all of the Infinity Stones.

Fans played the blame game, laying a lot of it at the feet of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) for clocking Thanos right when the rest of the team was about to get the Infinity Gauntlet off his hand. He did it out of understandable fury at Thanos for killing Gamora (Zoe Saldana). But still. Bad timing.

But "Infinity War" co-director Joe Russo told ComicBook.com fans could also shame Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for not taking out Thanos when he had his shot in Wakanda:

"I would argue that the fan base could be equally upset with Thor, who chose to throw that ax into Thanos chest and not his head. Because he wanted to tell Thanos that he got his revenge. [...] Had he gone for a kill shot, that snap would not have happened.

These are choices that characters who are feeling immense pain make and hopefully, the audience can learn to empathize with those characters because they can grow through stories. Stories can teach us things and that we should try to see every choice from the perspective of the character that made the choice."

Thor was clutch in the rest of the Wakanda battle, and in the movie at large (Thor + Rabbit + Tree = Family), which may be why he hasn't taken as much crap from fans. Plus, no one expects strategy from Thor. He's Thor.

Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) also got some fan blasts for not killing the Mind Stone sooner, which was a decision based on strong emotions just like with Star-Lord and Thor. She did end up breaking Vision's Mind Stone, but by then Thanos had the Time Stone and just went back in time to unbreak it.

Speaking of that, he only had the Time Stone because Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) handed it over. Strange took some blame for that, too, but not that much since he already mentioned seeing 14 million scenarios play out and only one where our team won. So we have to assume everything after that point was part of Strange's winning end game.

You could also blame Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) for refusing to come out and play.

The whole blame game is kinda moot, though, since the real reason no one took out Thanos is because then the movie would be over. Then how would Marvel double its billion-dollar payday into 2019 with "Avengers 4"?

By the way, did you see how Chris Pratt responded to all of the Star-Lord hate? He f-ed himself:

Look what you made him do!
