DC and Warner Bros. Developing 'Blue Beetle' Movie
Blue Beetle may join the DCEU.
DC and Warner Bros. are developing a film that would center on Jaime Reyes, The Wrap reports. Introduced in 2006, the character became the newest incarnation of Blue Beetle in "Infinite Crisis #5." He followed in the footsteps of two others who previously carried the mantle.
Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner created the character. In the comics, Reyes was an ordinary teen living in El Paso, Texas, when he gained his powers by unknowingly picking up a scarab. It gave him several special abilities, including being able to fly, translate alien languages, fly, and more. Reyes is Mexican-American, so as The Wrap points out, the actor to play him could be the first Latino to headline a DC film.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has been tasked with writing the script. He also penned the upcoming film "Miss Bala," starring Gina Rodriguez. Meanwhile, Zev Foreman of Warner Bros. is executive producing the "Blue Beetle" movie.
