Brad Pitt Confirmed for ‘World War Z’ Sequel

Long in development –– at one point star Brad Pitt was talking up a reunion with director David Fincher for it –– Deadline brings news that the ‘World War Z’ sequel is finally, officially moving forward, but with a different filmmaker behind the camera.

It does mark a re-teaming for Pitt, though, as Paramount has confirmed the hiring of ‘Conclave’s Edward Berger, who recently worked on missing-wife drama ‘The Riders’ together.

Pitt seemingly enjoyed the collaboration with Berger, and now a plan is in place for them to work on the follow-up to the undead-filled 2013 adaptation of Max Brooks’ novel.

What’s the story of ‘World War Z’?

Pitt starred in the original movie as former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane, whose settled family life is rocked when the world is plagued by a mysterious infection turning whole human populations into rampaging mindless zombies.

After barely escaping the chaos, Lane is persuaded to go on a mission to investigate this disease. What follows is a perilous trek around the world where Lane must brave horrific dangers and long odds to find answers before human civilization falls.

That film –– directed by Marc Forster –– was infamously beset with re-writes and re-shoots, ballooning the budget. All involved will be hoping for a smoother process this time around. Dennis Kelly (‘Utopia’) is writing the script, but plot details have yet to emerge.

Pitt is back on our screens in survival thriller ‘Heart of the Beast,’ and talking of a Fincher reunion, he stars for the director in the Quentin Tarantino-scripted follow-up to ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,’ titled ‘The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,’ which will be in cinemas on 25th November ahead of its arrival on Netflix on 23 December.
