'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Premiere Smashes Ratings Records
Just like Daenerys Targaryen's dragons, "Game of Thrones" just keeps getting bigger.
The Season 7 premiere smashed series and HBO ratings records, with 10.1 million live viewers. Across all platforms (streaming, video on demand, repeats), the total soars to 16.1 million — a series high.
That represents a 50 percent increase from the Season 6 premiere last spring — astonishing considering that this year's opener aired in July, a time when television viewership is notably lower.
"Game of Thrones" has already beaten out "The Sopranos" as HBO's highest-rated series of all time. Season 1 averaged 3.3 million viewers. Now, the fantasy drama is available on more platforms than ever, including HBO Go, HBO Now, and Hulu.
The Season 7 premiere, "Dragonstone," also generated about 2.4 million mentions on Twitter, making it the most-tweeted episode in the social network's history.
